Gifts and Capacities

Who we are, where we have come from, what we love, and what we are good at directly guide how we solve problems and rise to meet challenges. The Strengths, Gifts, and Capacities tool is an audit of yourself. It can help you decide on courses of actions that are suited to you an only you.

Use the columns to help sort out your situation

Before you fill out the form below, try to think about a time you made a positive difference in someone else's life that made you feel good about yourself and your place in the world. Then, using the framework below, think about all of the capacities and gifts you used to make that positive difference. List them out by gifts of the mind, hands, feet, heart, and identity.

TipsTIPS

Sometimes we don't think about who we are or what we are good at. This tool can assist you in getting help from the people who know you best. They often see things that we do not see in ourselves.

What are the gifts that you possess with hands, feet, voice? What are you good at or enjoy? Typically what you enjoy doing is a gift too! You don't have to be the "best" for it to be on your list! (examples: artistic, athletic, singing, calming voice, gentle touch, good at massages...)

What are the gifts that you possess with your head? Solving puzzles, problems, or thinking deeply? Do you know yourself well or have insight to others' thoughts and motivations? Do you see the big picture? Have a mind for details?

What are the gifts that you possess related to your history or identity? What experiences have provided you with a gift or a capacity in an area? What about "who you are" is a gift to others? Are you honest and direct? A survivor, a caregiver? Successful in your work, a great friend, mentor, advocate?

What are the gifts that you possess with your heart? What or who do you love? Are you kind, compassionate, caring, gentle, good parent, or caregiver?

What have you learned by naming these gifts and capacities?
