Thinking about my story and important memories

Your story is a vital part of you. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by changes in your life it can help to remember important events, people, places, and things that you’ve done.

You may also like to share some of your story with the people around you to help them to know you better.

How to use the My story thinking tool

If you’d like to record your memories you can simply create a list of important events, people and places in your life, using this thinking tool.

Just write memories on the thinking tool as you remember them. You can add dates but don’t worry if you don’t know them. Your friends and family might like to help you by talking with you about your life.

More ways to record your story

You could use the thinking tool to start a more detailed or creative record of your life. Here are some ideas:

  • an album or scrapbook about your life with photos
  • a journal with your memories written in it
  • letters to your family that talk about your past and your favourite memories with them
  • a memory box of photos and memorabilia
  • a video or DVD of you talking about your past

Next steps: plan what you’re going to do

Now that you have started remembering your life and creating a record, here are some questions:

  • Is there anything else you would like to do to record your story and memories?
  • What do you need to get started?
  • What would you like other people to do to help you?
  • How would you like to store or share the information?

Note what you plan to do next on the My Living Well Notes thinking tool.
